People who responded to the threats said that the state’s security agencies were compromised because MC Oluomo was not detained.

“We have begged them. If they don’t want to vote for us, it is not a fight. Tell them, mama Chukwudi, if you don’t want to vote for us, sit down at home. Sit down at home,” MC Oluomo warned non-APC voters in the state.

In the aftermath, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, said that an investigation has been launched into the alleged threat issued against Igbo by MC Oluomo.

Owohunwa made this known while featuring in an interview with TV Arise News on the preview of the governorship and state assembly elections slated for Saturday.

Reacting to the threat today, Lagos CP said, “We condemn in the strongest possible terms any act, statement, or an action that could be interpreted as hate speech or that could be interpreted as deepening political tension regardless of the brain that might be behind it. With regards to this specific video you mentioned, it is currently a subject of a detailed investigation.”

MC Oluomo’s Clarification

However, MC Oluomo, via a Facebook post clarified that he did not threaten Igbos living in Lagos State.

He stated that he was referring to an Igbo woman who was a friend of his, imploring her to stay in her house if she is not willing to vote.

The statement reads in part, “I Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya popularly called Mc- Oluomo, the chairman of Lagos State Park and Garages Management, has refuted a malicious video that has gone viral where I was quoted to threatened Igbo voters in Lagos.

“The viral video which was edited to reflect the malicious intend of the false purveyors only captured where I was joking with an Igbo woman that I we not be happy if she stayed in house then vote against my party (referring to APC).

“The video was captured when I was holding a meeting with some residents of Oshodi, Isolo and Ejigbo which include Igbos and the woman whom he referred to as “Iya Chukwundi” was in the meeting.”

In order to land credence to his statement, the woman in question also appeared in the video, debunking the threat against Igbos.

MC Oluomo further said, “The woman in question has however debunked the claim saying herself, to be sincere have a cordial relationship. She stressed that she has been supplying Mc Oluomo noddles for a long time, showing how cordial their relationships are.

“I am surprised that the joke I was cracking with lya Chukwundi has been twisted to mean I am threatening Igbos in Lagos. I wonder why people would always want to twist your words or a deliberate act to misconstrue my words to suit their selfish interest. The video was edited to only show where I made the joke and they attached a negative message to it.”

“The woman in question, Mrs Uche also stated that her attention was drawn to the viral video by her daughter.

“She said it was joke directed at her in the meeting and she was equally surprised that people edited the video and are claiming that I MC Oluomo was threatening Igbos.”
