Family has fixed a date for Osinachi Nwachukwu’s burial, ENigeria Newspaper has learnt.
Many people have been left perplexed by the unfortunate and unexpected death of Osinachi Nwachukwu, whose death sparked a flurry of queries from worried friends, family members, and colleagues who insisted on getting to the bottom of the situation.
According to her family, Osinchi Nwachukwu, who died at the age of 42, will be buried in her father’s compound, and there are also reports that the family would return her bride price to her husband’s family.
The family has provisionally set June 25, 2022 for the burial of Osinachi Nwachukwu, widely known as the Ekueme crooner, according to information obtained by ENigeria Newspaper.
Instead of being buried in her husband’s hometown, Osinachi’s family asked that she be buried in her father’s compound in Isuochi, Abia State.
According to BBC Igbo, the singer’s family is also considering returning his bride money.
Hours ago, ENigeria Newspaper understood that the Nigerian government through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation filed a 23 count charges including homicide against Peter Nwachukwu, husband of deceased Osinachi.
He was charged with culpable homicide in violation of section 221 of the Penal Code, which is punishable by death, under sections 104 and 379 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
Mrs Yewande Gbola-Awopetun, the Head, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, Department of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Ministry of Justice, filed the case with charge number CR/199/2022 before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on May 20, 2022.
The prosecutor charged the defendant with violating the VAP Act by forcibly ejecting the dead from the family home, as well as attempting culpable homicide by forcing Osinachi out of a moving vehicle.
The defendant also allegedly deprived the deceased of her personal liberty by restricting her movement and locking her up in the house, according to the federal government.
Nwachukwu was also charged with emotional, verbal, and psychological abuse in violation of section 14(1) of the 2015 VAP Act.
The defendant allegedly denied Osinachi access to her money, forcing her to beg and borrow for medication and basic essentials.
Osinachi’s spouse is also accused of isolating and isolating her from her family by forbidding the deceased’s mother and siblings from accessing her matrimonial house.
Nwachukwu was also accused of brutally abusing the children, recording their cries and playing them again on his phone, as well as threatening the children and preventing them from reporting their mother’s domestic abuse to his pastor, Dr. Paul Enenche, or anyone else.
“That you Peter Nwachukwu, 56, male, did commit an offence to with: culpable homicide punishable with death on the 8th of April, 2022 at Aco Estate, opposite police station, Lugbe, Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, in that you caused the death of Mrs Osinachi Nwachukwu by your various acts of violence and aggravated assault with the knowledge that her death would be the probable consequence of your acts,”

“Particular of offence: That you, Peter Nwachukwu, male, sometime between 14th November 2009 and April 2022 at Aco Estate, opposite police station, Lugbe, Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did commit an offence to wit: emotional, verbal and psychological abuse on Mrs Osinachi Nwachukwu (deceased) by humiliating her and making utterances like ‘you are smelling,’ ‘you are mad,’ to her in the presence of her music crew members.”
It was earlier reported that the popular Nigerian gospel singer who came into the limelight with the hit, “Ekwueme”, which she sang alongside Prospa Ochimana, reportedly died on Friday, April 8 in an Abuja hospital.
It was not immediately clear what the cause of her death was, however, an autopsy was carried out by the FCT Police Command and the result was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for vetting and possible prosecution.
The police also did not give details of the autopsy, but there have been several allegations by family members of the deceased, including her children and other close associates, suggesting that the gospel singer had lived under the torture of her husband during their years of marriage.
This sparked public outcry and national discourse on gender violence, with the police arresting Peter Nwachukwu, the alleged wife beater, with deeper investigations being conducted.
During a meeting between the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Usman Allali Baba and the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen as well as the family members of Osinachi, the police boss assured that the matter would be investigated thoroughly and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
