Re election Gov Dapo Abiodun Wins Ogun Governorship Election 2023 Despite Allegations of Poor Performance

Abiodun defeated Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 262,383 votes, with a vote total of 276,298 in Ogun State.

Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, has won reelection for a second four-year term.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate was proclaimed the winner by Prof Kayode Adebowale, the state returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Ogun State.

Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 262,383 votes, and Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who received 94,754 votes and is supported by former governor and current APC senator Ibikunle Amosun, were Abiodun’s closest competitors.

“That Abiodun Adedapo Oluseun of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned election,” Adebowale stated.

Abiodun’s first four years were wrought with allegations of poor performance, with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party claiming the state witnessed no development under the current administration.

The INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, said 2,688,305 was the total registered voters while accredited voters were 666,406

Adebowale said a total of 645,133 votes were valid while 18,835 votes were rejected. He said a total of 663, 968 votes were cast .

In the state, the APC won 12 local government areas while the PDP took home eight.

The APC won in the state’s local government areas of Odeda, Egbado-North, Egbado-South, Ewekoro, Ijebu-North, Ijebu-Ode, Ipokia, Abeokuta-North, Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo, Obafemi-Owode, and Imeko-Afon.

Ijebu-North/East, Ikenne, Ijebu-East, Remo-North, Odogbolu, and Sagamu were all won by the PDP.
