The three off-cycle governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States set for November 11, 2023, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will be open to the public.

The electoral body announced this on Thursday in a statement that was penned by Festus Okoye, its spokesman.

He claimed that 17 political parties submitted candidates for the states of Bayelsa and Imo and 18 parties for the Kogi governorship race.

Okoye added that all political parties supporting candidates in the three elections had turned in duly completed Forms EC9, which contained candidates’ names and personal information backed up by signed affidavits, as well as EC9B, which contained the names of the parties’ candidates.

The INEC National Commissioner said, “As required by section 29 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the Commission shall publish the personal particulars of the candidates in the State Headquarters and Local Government offices in the three States tomorrow Friday 12th May 2023.”

The electoral body appealed to Nigerians to scrutinise the list, particularly, “any aspirant who participated in his/her party’s primaries with reasonable grounds to believe that the information provided by the candidate is false can challenge the nomination at the Federal High Court as provided in section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.”
