Gov. Sanwo-Olu approves increase in BRT fares

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reportedly approves increase in BRT fare in the state, ENigeria Newspaper reports.
The report which is currently circulating across several media platforms suggest that the Lagos State government announced an increase in the fares of all buses regulated under the BRT scheme, ENigeria Newspaper reports.
Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state governor, approved a flat rate fare hike of N100 for all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Standard routes.
ENigeria Newspaper reports that due to the hike, a bus from Ikorodu to TBS will now cost N600 instead of N500, and a bus from Berger to Ajah will now cost N700 instead of N600. The fee from Oshodi to Abule Egba would increase from N350 to N450, and the rate from Abule Egba to CMS-Obalende will be N600.

In addition to approving the fare increase, the governor agreed to a proposal for a bailout for bus operating companies (route franchise operators/concessionaires) in order to mitigate the effects of the challenging operating environment, protect private partnership investment, and prevent the end of formalized bus operations in the state.
ENigeria Newspaper reports that although the Lagos State government is yet to make an official announcement to the effect, Lagosians are already complaining over the hardship the increase will bring to commuters.
