Binani Wins Adamawa Guber Amidst Controversy

Again, Binani drags INEC to Court over cancelled declaration

The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Adamawa, Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, has been proclaimed the victor of the governorship elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Binani the winner on Sunday morning after the PDP’s Umar Fintiri, the current governor, lost.

However, there was a little controversy as Prof Hudu Yunus Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Adamawa, declared Binani as winner midway into the collation.

Mele Lamido, the returning officer for the Adamawa governorship election, was not present when Ari announced Binani as the winner of the election.

Results from 10 out of the 20 local government areas had been declared while the exercise was adjourned till 11am.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was leading before the pronouncement was made.

Some PDP supporters in the hall had protested why the announcement was made by the REC instead of the returning officer.

This among many other irregularities are what characterized the 2023velections in Nigeria.
