American President, Mr. Joe Biden has refused to congratulate Nigeria’s President-Elect since after he was pronounced winner in the 2023 Presidential Election by the electoral empire.

  • In May of last year, Mr. Biden called Ferdinando Marcos Jr., the then-president-elect of the Philippines, to wish him well.
  • Weeks after the election, Biden has not yet congratulated Bola Tinubu, the winner of the Nigerian elections.

  • When any country seen as an American ally elects a new president, it is usual for the US president to congratulate the new leader.

As is customary when any country regarded as an American ally elects a new president, Bola Tinubu, the victor of Nigeria’s hotly contested presidential election, has not yet received an official congratulations from U.S. President Joe Biden.

Mr. Biden’s quiet two weeks after Mr. Tinubu’s election seems strange given that his distant predecessor, Barack Obama, congratulated Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 on the same day that the country’s Independent National Election Commission (INEC) declared him the winner.

In May of last year, Mr. Biden called Ferdinando Marcos Jr., the then-president-elect of the Philippines, to offer his congratulations. The White House website made the call’s specifics available.

After Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the Brazilian presidential election in October 2022, the US president sent him a message of congratulations, which was also posted on the White House website.

Ned Price, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, congratulated Mr. Tinubu on behalf of the foreign government while also highlighting how many Nigerians were unhappy with INEC’s electoral process.

In the statement, Mr. Price urged disgruntled candidates to challenge Mr. Tinubu’s election in court.

It may be inferred from Biden’s nonverbal cues that he doesn’t trust the election that elected the new president of Nigeria.

The electoral process, according to the European Union, was twisted and lacking in openness.

The All Progressives Congress leader Mr. Tinubu won the election due to irregularities, violence, and intimidation, according to the British research tank Chatham House.
