Abba Yusuf: New Kano Gov to investigate N241bn Debt Left By Ganduje

Abba Kabir Yusuf, the newly elected governor of Kano State, has committed to look into the N241 billion debt that the former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration left behind.

Yusuf expressed his displeasure with the handover notes provided by Ganduje in his speech during the inauguration, saying that he is discouraged by the paucity of information in the documents received.

“The handover notes are far from satisfactory. They provide meagre information, and the transition committee report is equally lacking.

“As representatives of the state, we cannot refuse to accept what has been given to us. We will thoroughly examine the details and take appropriate action based on our findings,” the new governor stated.

Ganduje was criticised by Governor Abba Yusuf for choosing to leave the state before the inauguration ceremony rather than personally handing over the state government.

He emphasised the requirement for thorough information gathering and exchange in order to facilitate the appropriate management of state affairs.

The governor questioned the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) level over the time that Ganduje was in charge, raising concerns about how the state has fared and what fresh revenue sources are available to his government in light of the debt left by his predecessor.

The governor told the residents of Kano that he is still dedicated to the development of the region in order to reestablish it as a major economic player in Nigeria.
