2023 Election: Gov Wike, Seyi Makinde, two other PDP governors consider dumping Atiku

The meeting, which took place in Port Harcourt at the governor’s mansion and was organized by Ayo Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, reportedly focused on the forthcoming 2023 election and how to galvanize votes for the ruling party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

After attempts to persuade Wike to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) failed, all that was left to be discussed was how he could help secure Rivers State votes for Tinubu in the 2023 election, ENigeria Newspaper learnt
Although, according to our source, “while Governor Wike did not immediately jump to the offer, he however did not reject it outrightly”.

In furtherance of the Port Harcourt meeting, ENigeria Newspaper understands that Wike is currently meeting with his closest allies and colleague governors in the PDP to discuss a possible strategy to adopt for the 2023 election, since Atiku appears not forthcoming.

The drama in the biggest opposition party, according to reports, began because Wike was said to be unhappy with the results of the Party’s presidential primaries, which saw Atiku Abubakar win the nomination while he finished as the first runner-up.

Also, the pick of Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State, as Atiku’s running mate is also believed to have irked the governor despite the committee’s favoritism of Okowa.
The primary’s aftermath caused a severe rift within the party, with some members who were thought to be loyal to Wike demanding for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman, and the replacement of Okowa’s name with Wike as the running mate.

ENigeria Newspaper reports that Governors Wike, Seyi Makinde, Ortom and Ikpeazu are currently in London and asides attending the graduation ceremony of the former’s son, Jordan, they also there to strategize ahead of the forthcoming elections whether to dump Atiku or not.
