José Santos Peseiro – New Super Eagles Coach comes aboard

José Santos Peseiro is now aboard as the new Super Eagles Coach after being announced by the Nigeria Footbal Federation – NFF.

On Sunday afternoon, the NFF announced his appointment, stating that it is effective immediately pending the signing of agreed-upon agreements between the coach and the football organization. The Super Eagles will be led by José Santos Peseiro, 62, beginning with friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador later in May, according to the NFF.

The NFF did not, however, specify the length of the Portuguese coach’s contract. In Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, José Santos Peseiro has coached clubs and national teams.

He has coached at Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, Panathinaikos, Rapid Bucharest, Sporting Braga, Victoria Gumaraes, Al-Hilal, Al-Wahda, Al-Ahly Cairo, Sharjah FC, Real Madrid (assistant coach during the Galacticos period), and Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan national teams.

On May 28, José Santos Peseiro will lead the Super Eagles out for the first time against Mexico at AT & T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The team will next fly to New Jersey on Thursday, June 2 to face Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison. The NFF also announced that Finidi George, a former Nigerian international forward, will serve as Peseiro’s First Assistant, with Salisu Yusuf serving as Peseiro’s Second Assistant and Head Coach of the CHAN and U23 National Teams.
