Confusion as Ganduje’s chief of staff, others defect to NNPP

There is tension in Kano as Governor Ganduje’s chief of staff, serving LG chairman, 2 lawmakers, APC auditor, youth leader join NNPP.
The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has been battered by defections, with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s current chief of staff, Ali Makoda, leading other prominent Kano North leaders to abandon the party.
Mr Makoda announced his defection to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Friday night.
He claimed he had already given Mr Ganduje his resignation as chief of staff earlier in the day.
Mr Makoda and other Kano North decampees were welcomed at Mr Kwankwaso’s Miller Road mansion in Kano.
ENigeria Newspaper reports that Badamasi Aliyu, a serving member representing Dambatta/Makoda Federal Constituency; Murtala Kore, a serving member of the state House of Assembly representing Dambatta; and Abdullahi Wango, a serving chairman of Dambatta Local Government Council, are among those who defected from the APC to the NNPP.

Ahmed Speaker, the APC’s State Auditor; Najib Abdussalam, the zonal APC Youth Leader; Umar Maitsidau, former chairman of Makoda Local Government; Halliru Danga Maigari, former member of the House of Assembly representing Rimingado/Tofa; and Hafizu Sani Maidaji, former member of the state House of Assembly representing Dambatta Constituency are among the others.
Safiyanu Harbau, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Tsanyawa/Kunchi Federal Constituency, and Habiba Yandalla, the immediate-past APC Women Leader, are among the noteworthy politicians that have defected.
On May 6, nine members of the state House of Assembly defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the National Peoples Party.

Isyaku Ali Danja (Gezawa Constituency), Umar Musa Gama (Nassarawa Constituency), Aminu Sa’adu Ungogo (Ungogo Constituency), Lawan Hussain Chediyar ‘Yan Gurasa (Dala Constituency), and Tukur Muhammad (Nassarawa Constituency) are the candidates (Fagge Constituency).
Mu’azzam El-Yakub (Dawakin Kudu Constituency), Garba Shehu Fammar (Kibiya Constituency), Abubakar Uba Galadima (Bebeji Constituency), and Mudassir Ibrahim Zawaciki are among those who have been elected (Kumbotso Constituency).
ENigeria Newspaper reports that a week later, Alhassan Rurum, the former speaker of the House of Assembly and a member of the House of Representatives, decamped from the APC to the NNPP, alongside Kawu Sumaila, a former assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly matters.
Gambo Sallau and Alhassan Abubakar Kibiya, both former speakers of the state House of Assembly, have also defected from the APC to the NNPP.
Three APC members of the Kano State House of Assembly defected to the NNPP on May 11. Abdullahi Iliyasu-Yaryasa represents the Tudunwada Constituency, Muhammed Bello Butu-Butu represents the Tofa/Rimin Gado Constituency, and Kabiru Yusuf Ismail represents the Madobi Constituency.
On May 12, Zubairu Hamza Massu, the deputy speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and Ali Isa Shanono, the member representing Bagwai/Shanono in the Assembly, joined the NNPP defection craze.
Also joining the NNPP on Friday is Abdulmumin Jibrin, a campaigner of the APC presidential aspirant Bola Tinubu as well as the immediate-past Kano State commissioner for Budget Planning Nura Dankadai.
A former governor of Kano State and serving senator representing Kano Central is expected to formally announce his defection to NNPP at the weekend.
