2023: Security Agencies place Tinubu, Atiku, Emefiele others on watch list

In the build up to 2023, security agencies have placed Tinubu, Atiku and others on watch list, ENigeria Newspaper reports.
All security and law enforcement agencies would watch and profile all political actors, according to National Security Adviser (NSA) retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other politicians preparing to compete in the 2023 elections are in the category of politicians who are on the watch list, ENigeria Newspaper reports.
Monguno revealed this at the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) second quarterly meeting in Abuja on Friday.
“This is on top of the unabated wave of violence that has jeopardized the approaching off-cycle gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun States, originating from internal party wranglings, escalating acrimony, and fighting among political actors.”
Also, the incapacity of various competing political blocs to resolve conflicts amicably in accordance with democratic principles.
As a result, the aforementioned troubling situation has already resulted in a tense power struggle that threatens to inflame unneeded political tensions across the country.
“More worrisome is the unguarded utterances of some highly respected individuals and groups which more often than not amplify divisive narratives to the detriment of national security and stability.
“As a result, heads of security and law enforcement agencies have been directed to step up careful monitoring and profiling of political actors of all levels who demonstrate tendencies to sabotage the electoral process, as well as thugs and their sponsors,” Yakubu added.
The NSA emphasized the need of INEC convincing political parties to continuously follow the regulations set out in their national constitutions.
“This is to significantly reduce areas of conflict and ensure a peaceful atmosphere for a hitch-free off-cycle and general election,” Monguno said.
