ENigeria Newspaper has learned that the Ijaw nation, which has never held the governorship office, feels shortchanged in comparison to other regions such as the Urhobos, Itsekiris, and Ibo-speaking entities, who have all had a shot at the top seat in the state, and in order to avoid a repeat that has become almost monotonous, they are insisting on fielding a candidate for the PDP in the upcoming Delta 2023 election.
There appears to be a conflict of interest among the Ijaw nation, given that two of its distinguished sons, Kingsley Otuaro and James Manager, are both eyeing governorship position in the Delta 2023 election.
The Ijaw leaders, stakeholders, politicians, and traditional rulers, led by the Delta-Ijaw for Governor 2023 lobby group, held a closed door meeting in Warri with all the frontline aspirants to ensure that the selection of an Ijaw preferred candidate ahead of the Governorship election occurs through a consensus arrangement.
The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro; Sen. James Manager, who represents Delta South Senatorial District; and Chief Braduce Angozi, and others, were among those in attendance.
The resolution reached during the closed door meeting cannot be confirmed by ENigeria Newspaper, however a communique with certain resolutions is expected to be disseminated.
This is a developing story; we’ll have more to say about it soon.
