Foul play is suspected as panel suggests outright sack of Abba Kyari over involvement with Hushpuppi, ENigeria reports.
The probe panel established by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, to investigate the former Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), DCP Abba Kyari, over his links with serial internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, has submitted a tainted report ENigeria Newspaper can report
The panel found Kyari guilty of some breaches after its investigations, but suggested that he be demoted rather than fired, ENigeria Newspaper understands.
On Friday, top sources in the Nigeria Police Force told SaharaReporters that the police conspiracy to demote Kyari was designed to thwart his much-anticipated extradition to the United States.
After three weeks of deliberation, the IGP’s investigative panel submitted its report on Kyari’s claimed indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Thursday (FBI).
According to reliable sources, the panel’s recommendation to the IGP was a demotion, and the report would serve as the foundation for the Police Service Commission’s decision.
“Abba Kyari’s police report simply suggests that he be demoted to a lower level. They reasoned that if he was dismissed, he could be extradited. Kyari’s actual adversaries are the police service commission, who want him fired outright.
“However, they must defer to the IGP. The IGP is without a doubt Kyari’s godfather, so we’re waiting to see what he’ll say,” a high-ranking source disclosed.
Kyari is being investigated for his claimed ties to Hushpuppi, a convicted felon in the United States.
The chairman of the SIP, DIG Joseph Egbunike, presented the police panel report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, August 26th, 2021, according to CP Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer.
The report, according to Joseph, included the probe’s case file, evidence, and findings, as well as testimonies from Kyari and other people and groups involved in the case.
“The IGP pledged that the Force Management Team would conduct a rigorous and expedient examination of the suggestions and then forward them to appropriate quarters for necessary actions,” Mba added. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to achieving justice for all.”
The US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California has issued an arrest warrant for Kyari because of his claimed ties to Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, a suspected fraudster who is on trial for several offenses including online fraud and money laundering.
Hushpuppi has subsequently pleaded guilty to the allegations, and if found guilty, he faces a 20-year prison sentence, three years of supervised release, and monetary compensation of $500,000 or more.
The court records reportedly detailed a feud among Hushpuppi conspiracy participants, which allegedly motivated him to arrange for DCP Abba Kyari to imprison one individual labeled as a “co-conspirator,” Kelly Chibuzor Vincent, in Nigeria.
“Kyari is a highly decorated deputy commissioner of the Nigerian Police Force who is said to have arranged for Vincent to be arrested and jailed at Abbas’ request, and then provided Abbas images of Vincent following his arrest,” according to the document.
“Kyari also reportedly supplied Abbas bank account information for an account into which Abbas could deposit cash for Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment,” according to the report.
