ENigeria Newspaper has some facts about why PDP Chairman, Uche Secondus is wanted out by Wike and others.
ENigeria is reporting that the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, is currently fighting to save his position as the party’s Chairman.
There were indications that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and other party chieftains hostile to Uche Secondus were planning to depose him before the party’s National Executive Committee meeting, which is expected to take place soon.
It was learned that the attempt to depose the chairman before the NEC meeting was part of a larger effort to prevent him from being re-elected at the party’s national convention in November.
On Wednesday, as the conspiracy to sack Secondus became clearer, ENigeria Newspaper learned that Aminu Tambuwal, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and the governor of Sokoto State, had begun mobilizing support for him.
Secondus’ opponents, however, were concerned that if the chairman was allowed to convene the NEC meeting, where members of the convention/election committee would be chosen, he would plant his loyalists on the committee, clearing the way for his re-election.
Remember that Punch reported on Tuesday that the PDP National Working Committee was in turmoil after seven members resigned.
“The conflict is about the control of the party ahead of the 2023 elections,” a member of the NWC told one of our correspondents on Wednesday.
Governor Wike and other opponents of Secondus fear that if he is allowed to convene and preside over the NEC meeting where the national convention/election committee members are chosen, he will ensure that his loyalists are present, making his re-election as national chairman a breeze. Secondus should not preside over his re-election, they believe.”
However, ENigeria has learned that Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal began rallying support for Secondus lately.
Tambuwal is said to have cut a trip short in order to return to Abuja for a strategic meeting when he was contacted on the issue.
Senator Walid Jubin, the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, called an emergency meeting of the board today as Tambuwal’s efforts to save the embattled chairman intensified.
Senator Seriake Dickson, who was coordinating members of the party in the National Assembly, was said to be supporting Tambuwal, who began reaching out to his colleagues on Tuesday night.
A similar scenario occurred within the ruling All Progressives Congress – APC a few months ago, when several prominent members of the party clashed with Adams Oshiomhole, the party’s chairman.
After a series of court injunctions and counter injunctions, Oshiomhole was fired as a result of the dispute that was not nipped in the bud.
