DCP Abba Kyari, a Police Chief accused by the FBI of conniving with criminal syndicate headed by Hushpuppi is facing a panel, ENigeria Newspaper reports.
According to the ENigeria Newspaper sources, Abba Kyari, the suspended former Head of the Intelligence Response Team, has appeared before the Special Investigation Panel, which is chaired by Joseph Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department.
On Tuesday, Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, submitted his case to the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) at the Force headquarters in Abuja.
The SIP finished its session at 8 p.m., according to our source.
“The panel has been sitting since Monday,” a source added. Kyari appeared before the panel members today (Tuesday), presenting his defense to the SIP members in response to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s indictment. From there, the panel would take over.”
ENigeria Newspaper earlier reported that Kyari is being investigated for his suspected role in a $1.1 million Internet scam reportedly carried out by Instagram influencer Abbas Ramon, also known as Hushpuppi, and five other people. READ IT HERE.
According to the FBI, Kyari imprisoned Kelly Chibuzor for one month at Hushpuppi’s request in order for the latter and his co-conspirators to defraud their Qatari victim of over $1 million.
Hushpuppi also paid $20,600 to two bank accounts allegedly provided by the former IRT commander on January 20, 2020, according to the agency.
