Tunji Disu a Deputy Commissioner of Police has been named as replacement of Hushpuppi’s ally, Abba Kyari ENigeria Newspaper reports.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has confirmed DCP Tunji Disu as the new Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
Disu will take over for Abba Kyari, who was suspended on Saturday following an FBI report accusing him of fraud conspiracy.
According to a statement made by Police spokesman Frank Mba on Monday, the IGP asked the new IRT director to show competence.
The announcement said, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc has approved the posting of DCP Tunji Disu as the new Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) today, 2nd August, 2021,” according to the statement.
“Management’s decision to fill the leadership void within the IRT and refocus the Unit for better service delivery prompted the officer’s posting. The new Head of the IRT has been charged by the IGP with demonstrating his professional ability in leading the Unit.
He further reassured residents that the IRT will continue to focus on carrying out its responsibilities in accordance with national statutes and international best practices.”
DCP Tunji Disu, a former Commander of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), was the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, prior to his newest position.
He had previously served as the Deputy Head of the Unit at the State CID in Rivers State, following his service as the Commander of the Nigeria Police Contingent to the African Union (AU) Peace Keeping Mission in Dafur, Sudan ENigeria Newspaper understands.
DCP Disu earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Lagos State University (LASU) and a Master of Public Administration from Ondo State’s Adekunle Ajasin University. Small Arms Smuggling Training in Botswana, Internet Fraud Training at Cambridge University, UK, Strategic Leadership Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos, Forensic Investigations and Criminal Intelligence Course at the University of Lagos are among the professional courses he has attended both at home and abroad.
He belongs to a number of professional organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, and the Chattered Institute of Personnel Management.
His appointment is effective immediately.
