On Tuesday night, men from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission – EFCC – invaded Parktonian Hotel Lekki, according to E-nigeria! Newspaper sources.
“The officials were hostile when they came”, according to an eye witness who was also a guest in the freshly built hotel. “They were threatening to shoot the receptionist and other hotel workers if they were denied admission inside the facility.
According to a source, “they took the hotel master access card and broke into guests’ rooms one by one.”
The hotel’s guests, including couples, were alleged to be shocked by the late-night raid, which lasted several hours.
“They barged in on us unclothed and vehemently ignored our requests to dress ourselves; they pulled us out and treated us like normal criminals,” said another eye witness.
“The whole situation was both unpleasant and traumatizing,” claimed a hypertensive client whose room was also broken into.
Officials from the EFCC, who claimed to be on the lookout for internet fraudsters (Yahoo Boys), were reportedly uncivilized and abusive to visitors, E-nigeria! Newspaper was told.
“They kept looking for rooms. They eventually left with about 13 people,” a witness said. “I was completely naked, and I had to beg them to put something on for me. I am hypertensive, but I put on a brave face since I am not a criminal in any way.” Another client stated.
“Nobody wants to sleep at a hotel where their privacy and security cannot be guaranteed,” he said, describing the experience as “embarrassing and traumatic.”
“I’m never going back to that hotel,” he added.
Efforts to get the hotel owner, Obinna Obiora to comment on the incident proved abortive as he asked to be given some time to do so.
