The sight of nobble musician, Lanre Fasasi (Olanrewaju Fasasi) famously known as Sound Sultan being lowered into the ground in a wooden coffin according to his religious custom was one that triggered wailings and gnashing of teeth, E-NIGERIA! Newspaper can report.
In a video seen by this newspaper, Sound Sultan’s wife Farida Fasasi was seen wailing almost endlessly as she laid her head on the her husband’s coffin in pains.
Sound Sultan was first diagnosed of cancer in April 2021, E-nigeria! Gathered that the 44 year-old continued with chemotherapy with high hopes but eventually breathed his last Sunday morning.
Married to Farida and together they had three beautiful children (2 boys and a girl); Sound Sultan is one of Nigeria’s most versatile musicians.
Actively involved in music since 1996 till death, Once signed to Kennis Music owned by Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye, Sound Sultan was a rapper, singer, songwriter, actor and comedian. He was among the pacesetter of modern hip hop in Nigeria; using his music to address the ills of the society such as poverty, corruption and bad governance.
Sound Sultan was buried in Brooklyn New York, America and musician, Olamide, showed up at the burial site alongside other Nigerian entertainers in America to sympathize with the family.
Born Olanrewaju Fasasi on November 27, 1976 in Jos, Plateau State, he married his wife Chichi Morah whom he renamed Farida in 2009.
In April, 2021 he was diagnosed for Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma – he continued Chemo until he eventually died.
