Details have now emerged on why Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu was arrested by men of the Department of State Services a few hours ago, e-nigeria! can now report.

Ibrahim Magu has been in the middle of multiple accusations of corrupt practices fromdifferent agencies who investigated him. However his recent ordeal may not be unconnected his fallout Nigeria’s Attorney General, Abubakar Malami who again accused the anti-graft agency chairman of corruption and fraud.

Magu who was detained at the Wuse II office of the DSS a few hours ago, e-nigeria gathered was arrested over allegations that he owns four properties and that he was allegedly transferring funds abroad through a third party.

Recall that the DSS in a 2016 report revealed and accused Ibrahim Magu of living in a N40m mansion paid for by one Umar Mohammed, a retired air commodore who is allegedly involved in shady deals.

Again, in another investigation by the Police Service Commission (PSC) in December 2010, Magu was found guilty of action prejudicial to state security – withholding of EFCC files, sabotage, unauthorized removal of EFCC files and acts unbecoming of a police officer, and awarded him severe reprimand as punishment.

Sources again revealed that  “Magu is currently occupying a residence rented for N40m at N20m yearly. This accommodation was not paid [for] from the commission’s finances, but by one Umar Mohammed, air commodore retired, a questionable businessman who has subsequently been arrested by the secret service.

“For the furnishing of the residence, Magu enlisted the Federal Capital Development Authority to award a contract to Africa Energy, a company owned by the same Mohammed, to furnish the residence at the cost of N43m.

“Investigations show that the acting EFCC chairman regularly embarked on official and private trips through a private jet owned by Mohammed.

“In one of such trips, Magu flew to Maiduguri alongside Mohammed with a bank MD who was being investigated by the EFCC over complicity in funds allegedly stolen by the immediate past petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Furthermore, the EFCC boss has been accused of living a life opulence and luxury. This is exemplified by his preference for first-class air travels. On 24 June, 2016, he flew Emirate airlines first-class to Saudi Arabia to perform lesser hajj at the cost of N2.9m. This is in spite of Mr President’s directive to all public servants to fly economy class.

58 year-old Ibrahim Magu is the current acting chairman of Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, EFCC. A Nigerian Police officer who took over the mantle of leadership at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission – EFCC on November 9, 2015; following the sack of the commission’s chairman,Ibrahim Lamorde by President Muhammadu Buhari.

His tenure as acting chairman of the EFCC has seen the commission putting behind bars, several corrupt politicians and convicted several wire fraud suspected. The EFCC under Ibrahim Magus also arrested musician ,Naira Marley alongside his colleague, Zlatan. The arrest further popularized Naira Marley who is now known as the President of Marlians, a group of persons believed to be fans of the 26 year-old controversial singer.
